Science-Based Interviewing Consulting

Ninette Toosbuy

Experience. Diligence. Justice.

Ninette Toosbuy spent nearly 25 years with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).  As a detective, she ran a sex crimes unit and taught investigative interviewing to law enforcement professionals and college students. After retiring from the LAPD, Ninette was hired by the University of Southern California (USC) to investigate problematic workplace environments. In addition, Ninette has fulfilled hundreds of confidential consulting roles throughout her career.

Ninette is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on investigative interviewing which led her to reform and teach the curriculum for the LAPD’s interview and interrogation course. Throughout her career, Ninette has developed her skills as a communications expert who uses Science-Based Interviewing (SBI), de-escalation, and negotiation techniques to achieve positive results. Ninette presents and teaches investigative interviewing to law enforcement, non-profit organizations, and higher learning institutions.

Regardless of her role, Ninette has been focused on one thing; bringing awareness to the importance of implementing police interview and interrogation reform.

“25-30 percent of confirmed wrongful convictions are a result of police-induced false confessions. Science-Based Interviews not only prevent false confessions but also increase investigative success, clearance rates, and most importantly, public trust in your police department.”
